3rd Element Consulting, Inc. - 3EC Helps Public Safety Meet Objectives with Open Source

For the January 2007 meeting of the Pennsylvania Police Accreditation Coalition (PPAC), hosted by Lower Allen Township Police Department, 3rd Element Consulting was asked to speak about the use of Open Source Document Management. With the help of 3rd Element, Lower Allen Township has been using an open source document management application for several years. Recently, the Police Department began utilizing this system in an effort to make their CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) documentation paperless.

Dawn Sizer, of 3EC, did a short presentation on how the system works from a technical standpoint, as well as an overview of the potential benefits of Open Source solutions in the Public Safety market. Following her presentation, Sgt. Leon Crone, Lower Allen Township Police Department, gave a demonstration on how they are using the system to comply with their CALEA standards.

Although the benefits of using Open Source were presented in respect to Public Safety and Law Enforcement, these solutions can bring significant benefits and savings to nearly every industry and market. In particular, document management solutions can assist organizations comply with the many government regulations, such as HIPAA, SOX, and GLBA.
