Vulnerability Assessments - What Are They? |
What is a Vulnerability Assessment?
A network vulnerability assessment evaluates all aspects of your network
from behind the firewall and identifies any potential holes a hacker
could exploit.
Given time, resources, and motivation, a cracker can break into nearly any system. At the end of the day, all of the security procedures and technologies currently available cannot guarantee that any systems are safe from intrusion. So the question is - after someone gets past the firewalls and software you may have in place, what data can they get to, and what can they do with it?
How is a Vulnerability Assessment done? At 3EC, we do it 2 different ways. One is with limited or no knowledge of the general staff, the other is with full knowledge of the staff. Either way, we use the same methodology. First, we assess what you have currently in place for IT security, including policies. We then look at the overall design of our organization, both people and equipment. The next step is to actually test your system or validate it. Once we have the results of the Vulnerability Assessment, we categorize them from critical to low risk, explain them to you and work with your organization we create a plan to fix any issues we may find. From there either we implement the plan with you, or turn it over to your staff to implement the plan. Last, we create an ongoing management strategy to keep your costs and your risks down.
