OpenOffice-Microsoft Office Throwdown

Typically I don't repost articles on our site, but I thought this one was well worth mentioning. Many of you who work with us know we're a big proponent of Open Source Applications, where and when they make sense. One of those applications is OpenOffice from OpenOffice.org It's a full Office Suite comparable to Microsoft Office.
This is the first time I've seen a side by side comparison of OpenOffice and Microsoft Office without a biased opinion one way or the other.

3EC Helps Public Safety Meet Objectives with Open Source

For the January 2007 meeting of the Pennsylvania Police Accreditation Coalition (PPAC), hosted by Lower Allen Township Police Department, 3rd Element Consulting was asked to speak about the use of Open Source Document Management. With the help of 3rd Element, Lower Allen Township has been using an open source document management application for several years. Recently, the Police Department began utilizing this system in an effort to make their CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) documentation paperless.
